US Vows a Significant Aid Package, Issuing a Direct Warning to the UN.

In a move that combines financial support with a clear warning, the United States has vowed $2 billion for United Nations emergency relief efforts. However, this funding was accompanied by a stark warning for the international body: it must "evolve or perish."

A Significant Pledge Amid Wider Budget Reductions

The funding announcement came amid significant reductions in US support of global aid. Additional reductions are expected from other major contributors including Britain and Germany. The US representative, President Trump's Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, delivered the announcement together with the UN's top humanitarian official.

"This money will save countless lives," affirmed the United Nations' humanitarian chief. Yet, the $2 billion is only a fraction of America's historical contributions, which were estimated at approximately $17 billion just a few years ago.

Furthermore, the stipulations prohibit spending on projects related to tackling global warming, deemed not "essential for survival" and not in "American interests."

Issuing a harsh ultimatum, the representative warned the UN that it must "change or face irrelevance." He stated that the US "coffers is not open to those organizations that seek to cling to the old system."

This official, a reported architect behind the shutdown of USAID, called for targeted and effective funding that avoids overlap among projects. The UN's humanitarian chief and the wider UN system say they full agreement for these principles, noting that wise spending benefits all, especially the hundreds of millions people affected by emergencies.
