PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
